Transparent iron oxide pigments have a very small particle size (nanoscale), high transparency, high tinting power, and clean colors, and high color fastness, including light resistance, weather resistance, solvent resistance, migration resistance, etc. Transparent iron oxide pigments have a strong ability to absorb ultraviolet rays and can provide long-lasting UV protection for products.
Transparent paint can be easily made using transparent iron oxide pigments. Due to this characteristic, transparent iron oxide pigments are used in many special occasions, such as wood paint, which can make wooden furniture reveal natural textures; As an automotive paint, it can be used with aluminum silver paste or pearlescent pigments to obtain special colors. It can also be used in plastic paint, metal paint, painting materials, and many other fields.
Transparent iron oxide pigments are currently most commonly used in automotive and wood coatings, as well as in building coatings, industrial coatings, plastics, nylon, rubber, printing inks, art coatings, cosmetics, powder coatings, and other fields.
Transparent iron oxide has excellent weather resistance, UV absorption, high transparency, and strong coloring power. When mixed with organic transparent pigments and dyes, this pigment not only enriches the color of the pigment and improves its chromaticity, but also significantly improves the usually poor weather resistance of organic transparent pigments and dyes when used alone.
1) Automotive paint
The most typical feature of transparent iron oxide pigments is to improve the weather resistance, transparency, and UV absorption performance of the paint, making them very suitable for automotive paints. In oily and water-based systems, they are combined with aluminum pigments and pearl powder to produce a golden yellow effect; In combination with organic transparent pigments, various colors of transparent paint can be produced. When mixed with organic pigments, transparent iron oxide yellow and phthalocyanine blue are combined to obtain different colors from gold to green, while transparent iron red and brown can be combined with organic red to produce products such as blue or dark blue.
2) Wood lacquer
Ultraviolet radiation is the primary culprit that damages wood, and transparent iron oxide pigments can strongly absorb ultraviolet radiation, thereby protecting wood and providing a coloring effect. They can also maintain natural texture and soft color, making them very suitable for wood and furniture paint.

3) Plastic coloring
The high transparency, high coloring power, and strong absorption of ultraviolet light of transparent iron oxide pigments have continuously increased their application in plastics. They are both colorants and UV shielding agents. Transparent plastic containers colored with them not only have good transparent coloring effects, but also provide protection for UV sensitive items inside the containers. For example, used in PET or PP to make beverage cans and medicine bottles.
4) Industrial coatings
Coatings containing transparent iron oxide pigments can create captivating gold and copper effects in metal applications, making them ideal for the interior and exterior finishing of packaging cans.
5) High Class Printing ink
The color brightness of water-based or oil-based transparent iron oxide dispersions is similar to that of organic pigments and transparent dyes, suitable for aluminum tube printing. At the same time, due to the successful application of automotive coatings, various colors of ink with metal flash effect can be produced for printing.

6) Art Coatings
Including metallic glitter paint (oily or water-based dispersions), fish pattern paint, hammer red paint, etc. Due to the long-term weather resistance of transparent iron oxide, it can preserve artistic colors for a long time.

7) Cosmetics
The non-toxic and ultraviolet light absorption ability of transparent iron oxide is very suitable for the cosmetics industry (water-based dispersions).
8) Powder coating
Transparent iron oxide has no color change within 5-20 minutes at a temperature of 130-200 ℃, making it suitable for powder coatings.
9) Dispersion method
Transparent iron oxide pigments must be completely dispersed in order to fully demonstrate their transparency and coloring power. Due to the small size of transparent iron oxide particles, strong interfacial forces are generated between the particles, making it difficult to disperse them tightly. The ideal dispersion effect depends critically on the dispersion process and equipment.
The first stage of the dispersion process is to select appropriate substrates and dispersants, wet the surface of the pigment to form a dispersion, and then select appropriate equipment for grinding.
For systems with relatively low viscosity, ball mill can be selected for dispersion, but Sander (including glass, steel, zirconia beads) is more suitable. For some high viscosity systems such as high pigment content pastes, a three roller mill should be used.
After thorough dispersion ( generally reaching a fineness of 3μm below, the excellent performance of GREEFIELD ® pigment transparent iron oxide can be demonstrated.
