Colored Asphalt , or Muticolour Colored Asphalt, also known as colored binder, is a new type of material among many road construction materials. There are currently two widely used types:
1) One method is to add color powder to a colorless binder. Colorless binder can be obtained through asphalt decolorization, or it can also be prepared from light colored polymers such as petroleum resin;

The Typical Coloured Asphalt pavement is a colored asphalt mixture composed of decolorized asphalt as the binder, various color pigments added, and various levels of stone ( aggregate ) mixed at the asphalt mixing station to form a colored asphalt pavement. After paving and rolling, it is formed.

Colored Asphalt can be mixed and mixed with various color specifications of stone aggregates, pigments, additives, and other materials at specific temperatures according to different formulas, and can be configured into various colored asphalt mixtures with bright colors, chemical properties, stability, and other characteristics, which can play a role in water drainage, anti slip, anti rutting, and beautification of the city.
The Main characteristics are that the colored asphalt pavement has a certain structural thickness (surface layer of 3.0 cm ~ 4.0 cm), which can replace the traditional asphalt surface layer. Productation Technology and Classification of Colored Asphalt :
The colored asphalt project is a construction project for asphalt pavement ( squares, sports fields ) that is different from ordinary black asphalt projects. The thickness of commonly used structures is around 30mm~35mm, and the lower layer is usually a black asphalt or cement concrete structure. The difference from the black asphalt project is that colored asphalt uses decolorized asphalt, and corresponding dyes must be added to obtain the desired color. If possible, stone aggregates with the same color system as the project can be used for better results.
Colored Asphalt is divided into the following THREE categories based on its performance characteristics:
Colored asphalt is divided into three types: base type, special type, and performance modified type, used to meet the various needs of various colored paving markets.
(1) Drainage type : Based on the drainage and noise reduction pavement, a drainage type colored asphalt pavement has been developed. This road surface has the performance characteristics of a drainage road surface and has the function of beautifying the urban environment. It can be widely used on traffic landmark roads, such as sidewalks, community roads, parks, squares, parking lots, etc.
(2) Anti slip type : Anti slip (wear-resistant) road surfaces are commonly used for urban landscape roads, such as braking deceleration zone roads and park areas, as well as all roads that require high friction coefficients. Anti slip colored asphalt can enhance and maintain the anti slip effect, safety, and aesthetic characteristics of these areas. By using adhesives to fix highly polished aggregates on the road surface, a permanent elastic surface can be formed. The thickness of this road surface is usually 35mm.
(3) Anti rutting type : A high-performance road product developed on the basis of repeated comparative experiments. It draws on the research results of epoxy colored asphalt and, based on the characteristics of colored asphalt, adds an appropriate amount of curing agent to the colored asphalt, fundamentally improving its performance. Features: Colored asphalt does not require any other equipment ( including asphalt tanks, etc. ). The direct injection method is used for the mixture, which is suitable for any basic mixture. Easy to use, store, transport, and produce.
Common Parameters for Colored Asphalt Construction:
The mix design of colored asphalt concrete pavement is as follows:
(1) The Marshall method can be used to design colored asphalt mixtures and determine the optimal oil stone ratio based on volume parameters. It is basically the same design as ordinary asphalt concrete. The key is to determine the amount of pigment added, and the mixed mixture has sufficient visual observation, with appropriate brightness and bright colors.
(2) The pigment dosage is generally 2.0%~3.0%~4.0%, and it is formulated according to actual needs. A too dark color not only makes the surface of the mixture too dark and affects the color, but also increases the cost.
(3) The amount of decolorized asphalt is 5.0%~6.5%.

Precautions for Colored Asphalt Construction Design
When laying colored asphalt, please pay attention to the following points:
(1) After the completion of all civil engineering, greening, drainage and other projects in the park, colored drainage asphalt pavement should be paved.
(2) Clean the middle layer of the colored asphalt pavement, and then use a light colored binder to prepare a diluted oil as the adhesive layer, with a dosage of approximately 0.5kg/m.
(3) Thoroughly clean the equipment before paving. The use of mechanical paving can ensure the smoothness of the road.

KEY Points of Colored Asphalt Construction and Paving
The KEY Points for the construction of colored asphalt pavement are as follows:
(1) Preparation of the base layer and construction of the permeable layer : Before laying the lower asphalt mixture, clean the base layer to ensure that it is slightly dry and clean, free from any loose stones, dust, and impurities. Fuel injection. After spreading, it will not flow, will not penetrate the base to a certain depth, and will not form an oil film. Before laying the upper layer, please clean the surface of the lower layer to ensure that there is no dust, dust, or other debris on the surface, and then spray a viscous oil layer.
(2) Determination of reference line : After the bottom layer is prepared, measure and set out, mark the thickness of loose asphalt material, and guide the control reference line for the direction and height of the paving machine.
(3) Mixing and transportation of asphalt mixture : The heating temperature of asphalt should be controlled between 160 ℃ to 170 ℃ (the temperature of modified asphalt should be 10 ℃ to 20 ℃ higher), and the drying temperature of mineral aggregate materials should be 10 ℃ to 20 ℃ higher than that of asphalt. Control the production temperature of asphalt mixture between 150 ℃ and 175 ℃. After mixing, the asphalt mixture is uniform without whitening, separation of coarse and fine aggregates, and agglomeration. The asphalt mixture is transported by a dump truck, and during the transportation process, the asphalt mixture is covered with waterproof tarpaulin. If it is found that the temperature is lower than the requirements, and the particles have white spots, segregation, agglomerated moisture, etc. that do not meet the specifications, the mixed material will be discarded and cannot be used for construction and paving.
(4) Asphalt mixture paving : Use an asphalt paver with an automatic leveling device for paving, and heat the entire slab to 80℃ ~ 100℃ about 30 minutes before paving. The circular rings of rainwater and sewage inspection wells are covered with steel plates, and the mixture is manually laid nearby and compacted. Ensure that the paving temperature is not lower than 110 ℃~130 ℃.
(5) Joint construction : When the sidewalk is constructed in two sections, natural joints are used for longitudinal joints. Before paving, please remove the loose mixture at the interface. During the paving process of asphalt pavement, when construction needs to be suspended, the lower layer adopts inclined joints and the upper layer adopts flat joints. After the construction of the flat joint is completed on the same day, it is cut, cleaned, and formed into a joint.
(6) Rolling asphalt mixture : Before normal rolling, the transverse joint is rolled. Along the joint, it is carried out in a direction perpendicular to the lane, and the support plate is placed on the longitudinal edge of the road surface, with a length sufficient to allow the rollers to leave the rolling area. After the asphalt mixture is spread and formed, it should be immediately rolled. The rolling steps are: initial compaction → re compression → final compaction.
(7) Protection and opening of finished products : After the final pressure of the asphalt concrete sidewalk is completed, when the temperature of the sidewalk drops to the outdoor temperature, tools and other debris on the sidewalk should be removed before passing.
(8) Common diseases and maintenance measures : Asphalt pavement is prone to penetration, rutting, and cracking. Maintenance is divided into two aspects: preprocessing and post maintenance. In the early stages, efforts should be made to choose good aggregates, reasonable proportions, and reasonable asphalt layer structure design; The maintenance of cracks in the later stage mainly involves spraying emulsified asphalt, grouting, and local repair.
